A collections of three original Rags: The Gray Fox, Summer Shuffle and Tappin’ Two Step. These pieces are arranged for xylophone and piano but could also be played on marimba. The Gray Fox is currently available from Permus Publications as a mallet ensemble (4 marimbas and solo xylophone – ME-10123 listed under Mallet ensembles. Summer Shuffle will be available in the same format later in 2018. Percussive Arts Society Review: Anyone starting a study of ragtime xyophone performance should check out hese fun, joyful pieces. These intermediate rags are accessible to performers with experience in the genre who are seeking new repertoire and who want to improve their skills before tackling advanced, improvisatory ragtime playing. ÒSummer Shuffle,””The Gray Fox,” and”Tappin’ Two-Step” are all written for xylophone with piano accompaniment. Ryan Garner provides the scores and solo parts and offers alternative breaks for the xylophone soloist.”Summer Shuffle” and”The Gray Fox” are also available with mallet ensemble accompaniment from Per-Mus. Though not stated by the com- poser, it can be assumed that the pieces could also be played as xylophone solos. This reviewer would have enjoyed more information about the composer’s influences, to guide the performer’s listening and to provide historic context for these wonderful new works.
